Most brands start with a product idea. This one started with a mountain of trash. Before we had an online store, there were just volunteers, work gloves and tons of rubbish pulled from streets, parks and neighbourhoods.
Where It Started
In 2019, Vrikshit Foundation began organising community cleanup drives across India. The goal was simple: clear waste from public places and show people how much single-use plastic they can avoid. Over the years, volunteers collected more than 9 million kilograms of waste. Behind that number are thousands of hours of hard work.
What 9.5 Million kg of Waste Taught Us
We kept finding the same things: plastic water bottles, disposable toothbrushes, straws and food packaging. They share a pattern. They’re used for minutes, they’re easy to replace, and they last far longer than anyone needs them to.
If the problem comes from daily habits, then easy everyday swaps are part of the answer. That realization changed everything.
From Cleanups Drives to Vrikshit Eco Mart
Cleaning up matters, but preventing waste is better. So we built Vrikshit Eco Mart to offer sustainable swaps for the disposables we kept pulling out of rivers and parks. The mission has two parts:
